Privacy

What this site keeps, and what it doesn’t.

No accounts, no ads, no tracking scripts. Here is the whole of it.

The speed test

The test runs between your browser and Cloudflare, so Cloudflare sees your IP address, as with any website you visit (Cloudflare’s privacy policy). The page reads only your network’s name and the Cloudflare location from that connection. Your IP address isn’t stored or sent to this site, and results aren’t logged to Cloudflare’s results service. The latest result stays in your browser for up to an hour, so a diagnosis can pick it up.

This site

Page requests are logged without IP addresses — time, page and status only — to catch broken links. The server’s error log can briefly include an IP address when something fails on the server side.

Guided diagnosis

The conversation lives in your browser tab and is gone when you close or refresh it. Each step sends the conversation so far, plus any speed test figures and the quick answers you ticked, to be worked on; none of it is stored. Your IP address is used in memory only, to limit how many requests one address can make. What is recorded is a line of bookkeeping per step — which guide was followed, how many steps it took, whether it reached an answer, what it cost — with no IP address and nothing about your network. If you use the feedback buttons at the end, the comment you write is kept.
